Dean of the Ella Cline Shear School of Education
SUNY Geneseo seeks an experienced, dynamic, reflective, and collaborative academic leader for
the position of Dean of the Ella Cline Shear School of Education. A professional school integrated
into a premier public liberal arts college and the SUNY state system, the Ella Cline Shear School
offers opportunities for intellectual leadership and professional development in a rural setting with
a unique combination of suburban and urban access.
The Dean of the School will provide leadership through shared governance and collegial planning
around a global vision for the future that builds upon the strengths of the faculty and the College
and as well as effective, continuing, and responsive program development and assessment. The
Dean will also be responsible for supporting faculty development and evaluation; building and
maintaining positive relationships among faculty and staff, and the internal and external community;
providing strong budget management with an eye to aligning programmatic and fiscal priorities;
and promoting effective enrollment management and program marketing.
The successful applicant will hold a Doctorate in Education or related field with appropriate
leadership-level experience; have a record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service requisite
for the rank of full professor; demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and strong verbal and
written communication; and have a progressive vision and thorough understanding of the purposes
and practices, current issues and trends of P-16 schools. Successful experience with advocacy for
teacher education programs and grant- and gift- raising is also desirable. Demonstrated intercultural
competency and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and access are essential.
The Ella Cline Shear School of Education has a well-established reputation for its fine teacher
education programs and is NCATE accredited. The School has 27 full-time faculty and over 1000
students in distinctive and highly successful undergraduate and graduate programs.
The College, located about 30 minutes south of Rochester, New York, is a public liberal arts college
with a broad range of undergraduate programs and distinctive/select programs in professional
education at the graduate level. Geneseo is ranked among the best public undergraduate colleges
in the country and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. It is highly selective
as suggested by mean SAT scores of 1335 for incoming freshmen.
The position is available July 1, 2012. Salary is competitive, and dependent on qualifications.
