The college's new online community was officially launched Oct. 22 with great response from alumni who are reconnecting with each other and Geneseo.
More than 1,100 alumni from graduation years 1945 to 2011 joined U-Knight within the first six days, says Francis Zablocki, online community manager.
"Our U-Knight registration goal for the first year is to have 10 percent of all alumni, or 5,000 registered, so we are well on our way," he says.
The online community provides alumni with the tools and information they need to keep in touch or reconnect with each other and find out what's going on at the college.U-Knight features online registration for alumni events, an alumni directory, e-mail addresses, class notes, job searches, a business directory and a direct link to news about Geneseo today.
With social media sites booming, U-Knight is a way to bring members of the Geneseo community together and help them find each other. Facebook and LinkedIn have more than 460 million combined users — more than the 2009 populations of the United States, Canada and Australia combined.
The largest group of users for both sites are 45- to 54-year-olds, followed by those who are between the ages of 35 and 44. Geneseo's official Facebook page has more than 8,440 friends.
The Office of Alumni Relations is spearheading the U-Knight initiative, with a confirmation for all our alums.
"Geneseo is here for you, 24/7. You may leave Geneseo, but Geneseo never leaves you," says Rose Anderson, assistant vice president for alumni relations.
