For the fifth straight year, Geneseo has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, and for the second year received a "with distinction" commendation — the highest federal recognition the college can achieve for commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

Last year, more than 4,000 Geneseo students gave nearly 79,000 hours of their time. Several projects were noted, including the Rochester Young Scholars Academy, organized through the college's Xerox Center for Multicultural Teacher Education. In the program, Rochester City School District students engage in college-level instruction in summer and participate in academic follow-up in the school year. This year's summer camp focused on archeology.
