Geneseo recently awarded its first Everyday H.E.R.O Award to Yvonne Mehlenbacher, who has been serving as a secretary in the biology department since 1995.
The H.E.R.O. award is a new CSEA Labor Management award. It stands for enthusiastic, reliable and ordinary and recognizes employees who deserve acknowledgement for their continuous hard work, dependability and positive contribution to the workplace.
Mehlenbacher was selected through a campus voting process and was described as someone who does a superb job and not only handles her tasks quickly and accurately, but takes a proactive approach in dealing with situations before they become an issue. She received a special parking sign by her parking spot, a "Hero" submarine party for up to 10 guests, an all-purpose sporting events pass to Geneseo games good for one year, a Pizza Hut gift card, and two movie passes to the Geneseo Theatre.
Finalists for this year's award were: Susan Federico, secretary I, philosophy; Vanessa Karasiewicz, secretary I, computing and information technology; Mary Kuhn, secretary I, geography; Monica Morris, secretary I, psychology; and Terry Peck, secretary I, mathematics.
