Geneseo Symphony Orchestra begins season

The Geneseo Symphony Orchestra will perform its first concert of the season on Oct. 14, which features a solo piano performance by Jonathan Gonder, chair of the Department of Music, as well as student conducting talent.

The orchestra is conducted by James Walker, Distinguished Service Professor of Music. It is his 42nd year as conductor. Louis Lohraseb '13 will also conduct during the eclectic program, which features the overture to "The Italian Woman in Algiers" by Rossini, and the "Intermezzo" from the "Symphonie Espagnol" by Lalo for violin and orchestra, performed by Hannah Garfield '13.

Gonder will make his fifth appearance as soloist with the orchestra performing Grieg's "Peer Gynt" and the Prokofiev "Piano Concerto No. 1 in D-flat Major." 

  • The Geneseo Symphony Orchestra performs on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m., in Wadsworth Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
