GENESEO, N.Y. - U.S. News & World Report has ranked SUNY Geneseo
first among four North Region universities identified as having a
strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Geneseo is one of 86
schools from the four regions of the country on the list, contained in
the magazine's 2011 rankings of the nation's top colleges and
universities.
Geneseo also made another strong showing this
year in the magazine's general rankings, placing second among the "Top
Public Universities" list for the North Region. It also ranks 12th in
the "Best Regional Universities" category for the same region, a
category that combines both public and private institutions.
"Our
faculty's strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student
success is the primary reason we continue to attract very strong
students and faculty to our campus," said Carol S. Long, provost at
Geneseo. "We are pleased our peers continue to validate our academic
quality through their responses to this highly visible survey."
The
86 colleges and universities in the country in the "Strong Commitment
to Undergraduate Teaching" category were selected from data collected
in a spring 2010 peer assessment survey of college presidents, provosts
and admissions deans from their ranking category. They were asked to
identify up to ten schools in their category with an unusual commitment
to undergraduate teaching.
SUNY Geneseo is also listed among
all public and private schools in the country with the lowest
acceptance rates, highest graduation rates and highest freshman
retention rates. Geneseo's rates are 35%, 80% and 90.8%, respectively.
"We
are always pleased with our strong showing in these rankings but
continue to advise parents and students to use them as one of many
tools to assess quality," said Bill Caren, associate vice president for
enrollment services at Geneseo.
All of this year's rankings are available online and will be published in the September 2010 issue of U.S. News & World Report, available on newsstands Aug. 31.
