  • Cynthia Hawkins, director of galleries, has been invited to participate in the June 2012 Association of Academic Museums and Galleries/Kellogg Foundation Leadership Seminar at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Seminar participants aim to strengthen the leadership of academic museums and galleries in the the United States in light of their special institutional natures and current and ongoing challenges to the field, including the complex governance and advisory board structures under which academic museums function.
  • Maria Perpetua U. Liwanag, assistant professor in the Ella Cline Shear School of Education, has assisted a student with directed study to implement an afterschool Foreign Language Program at Geneseo Elementary School. In partnership with Principal Mark Linton, Marisa Shuman '12 taught Spanish to 19 students in grades 1 through 5 last fall for her study on bilingual education with Liwanag and is continuing the program voluntarily this spring, teaching Spanish and French to students. Liwanag hopes the opportunity to teach elementary students additional foreign languages will continue.
