Four faculty members were made honorary members of the Geneseo chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society at the annual induction ceremony Oct. 21.

They are Distinguished Teaching Professor of English Eugene Stelzig, Assistant Professor of Biology Elisabeth Cox, Assistant Professor of History Catherine Adams and Associate Professor George Briggs, chair of biology.

At the ceremony 276 students joined the ranks of Phi Eta Sigma. Provost Carol Long gave welcoming remarks after an introduction by Elsje van Munster, honor society adviser and associate dean of students.

Each inductee was also congratulated by the students of the society's executive board: Samantha Maurer  '11, president, Robert Cronin '11, treasurer, Michelle Marks '11, secretary, Allison Sirica '12, public relations, and Keisha Stokes '11, historian.



Professor Darrell Norris took five students with four student presenters to the AAG Middle States Geography Bowl at West Point on Oct. 22 and 23. The students are Ashley Tinney '11, Andrew Schultz '11, Nina Schmidbaur '11, Samantha Landau '13 and team captain Jaime McKay '11.
The students presented individual papers and the Geneseo students combined as a team to win 3rd place honors in the Geography Bowl Regional Round. They even defeated three teams comprised of graduate students, including SUNY Buffalo.
