Geneseo celebrated the spirit of philanthropy at the 30th annual President's Recognition Dinner on April 30, recognizing alumni and friends of the college whose contributions have helped make study abroad, research and other opportunities possible for students.
The event featured student presenters Greg Roloff '12 and Kerisha Hawthorne '11 as well as a recent alumna Katherine Brooks '10. The Geneseo Foundation also presented the 2011 Awards for Philanthropic Leadership to community member Frank Csapo, Mary Robinson-Slabey '64 and the Gustave A. & Geraldine S. Werner Foundation, accepted by the trustee William Fish.
The Geneseo Dance Ensemble, led by Professor Jonette Lancos, who is also the group's artistic director, performed several short excerpts from longer works for guests, including "Mexico Daydreamers," which Lancos created. Heather Acomb '06 is the ensemble's assistant director.
Members of the The Geneseo Foundation board of directors and other guests were also treated to a GREAT Day Showcase prior to the event, including poster and senior thesis presentations and short performances of "The Fantasticks" presented by Vocal Miscellany and "Stinkin' Garbage," by the Geneseo Percussion Ensemble. The ensemble uses garbage cans for the piece.
