For more than 25 years, Dennis Showers has been a mentor to the next generation of teachers. For more than 18 years, Kurt Fletcher has taught the basics and the advanced concepts of physics to students at Geneseo.

The SUNY Board of Trustees recently honored both professors with its highest honor. Showers was named a distinguished service professor for his contributions to teacher education and national and international organizations related to science and math. Fletcher was named a distinguished teaching professor and lauded for his ability to shape the lives and careers of students and make the subject of physics accessible to students of all majors.

At opening convocation Aug. 26, President Christopher C. Dahl recognized them for their recent awards. More than 40 Geneseo professors have earned SUNY's top honors.
