Students will choose from one of three sessions available (first-come, first-served):

The Schedule

Arriving at Lake Placid Youth Hostel (http://highpeakshostel.com/) on Sunday between 3pm and 5 pm. Students spend the afternoon/evening checking in, learning or reviewing the basics of backpacking, checking gear, and getting to know other program participants. Students will have dinner together with their program coordinator and Geneseo Faculty and will have an overview of the week ahead.  Monday - Wednesday, the group will travel to the trails and enjoy a day of activity. Each day will present itself with a new adventure (hiking, canoeing, exploring, etc.), as evening falls, students will write of the days’ events in a journal to themselves. Each evening will have organized group activities at the youth hostel or in Lake Placid. After a re-cap of the week, students will depart on late Thursday morning.

Fees

The cost of Geneseo’s Adirondack Adventure is $625. There is a non-refundable deposit of $50.00.

Who should apply?

Prior hiking experience is not necessary. Participants' experience can range from those who had previously hiked for weeks at a time, to students who had never set foot on a trail. Anyone with a moderate level of fitness and an interest in trying something new is encouraged to apply. Enrollment is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Housing

All participants will stay at the Lake Placid High Peaks Hostel. Rooms are bunk-style in dorms. Room assignments are single sex. The program fee includes all meals during the program. All housing arrangements will be made for participants and include bedding, towels, and linens.

Transportation

Students should arrange their own transportation to and from Lake Placid for this program. Students who drive will be asked to forfeit their vehicle keys for the duration of the program. Transportation for organized activities is included in the program fee.

We do try to assist families with arranging carpooling.  With your permsision, we will provide students in your geographical area, your contact information so that you may coordinate traveling together.

Maximum Enrollment

14 First-Year students per session. Registration deadline is May 24, 2013..

Medical Information

Accepted students must complete the Health Services forms by June 30, 2013.  Forms should be sent directly to the Lauderdale Health Center.

Other Activities

Beyond the program, participants may take advantage of various recreational facilities including Lake Placid Olympic facilities and the fun city of Lake Placid, as time permits.
