Banking and ATMs:
As you begin a new chapter of your life at SUNY Geneseo, it's important to also consider those non-academic and non-collegiate amenities that are a part of life away from home. One such service is banking. Everyone needs access to money. Geneseo has a Federal Credit Union, located on campus in the College Union and open to all students. Additionally, there are two ATMs located on campus (one HSBC in Letchworth Dining Hall and one Bank of Castile outside the lower doors of the College Union). Near campus are Key Bank and the Bank of Castile, both with 24-hour ATMs. A little farther away, but accessible through the local bus route, are HSBC and Five Star Bank.
Bus Services:
Don’t have a car on campus? No problem. Geneseo offers free transportation seven days a week to many locations in Geneseo, including Wal-Mart, Wegman’s, and the local movie theatre. By showing your Geneseo ID card, you can board Geneseo buses at any designated bus stop. Need to get into Rochester or go to the airport? Friday through Sunday Geneseo buses also go to various places in the Rochester area, including the Marketplace Mall, GEVA Theatre and the University of Rochester. Check out the schedule here.
Vacation Bus Program:
Sponsored by the Student Association, the Vacation Bus Program runs before and after each college vacation (fall break, Thanksgiving, winter break and spring break). Chartered bus services depart from the College Union to take students to downstate New York areas, stopping near Suffern, Madison Square Garden, Roosevelt Field Plaza, and Lake Grove. Tickets are available to students at a reasonable price and can be purchased through the Student Association Ticket Office in the College Union on a first-come, first-served basis.
Taxi Service:
When you must travel point-to-point on specific days and times, taxi service is available. Check transportation.geneseo.edu for suggested companies.
College Bookstore:
Need books? The Geneseo University Bookstore is located in the College Union and is the official bookstore for SUNY Geneseo. Visit the store in the Union or go online to www.geneseo.bkstr.com to order textbooks and shop for Geneseo apparel.
Knightweb:
If there’s one Geneseo website that you’ll want to keep in mind it’s http://knightweb.geneseo.edu. Knightweb allows you to access all your academic information, including your class schedule, unofficial transcripts, mailbox combination, and financial aid information. Knightweb is also the website you’ll use to look up and register for classes in the upcoming semesters. To access all this information, simply log on with your Geneseo Student ID number.
InterFaith Center:
The InterFaith Center is located just off campus and offers a number of denominational and ecumenical functions as well as pastoral guidance, workshops, and religious education programs. Protestant Ministries, Newman Catholic Community and Hillel sponsor meals and social events, and worship services are offered throughout the year. The center also offers service opportunities for students in the broader Geneseo community. There are also Jewish Holy Days, Shabbat services, a Kosher Passover Kitchen, Jewish Awareness Month, and Catholic masses on weekdays and weekends, all offered at the InterFaith Center.
Milne Library:
So you’ve just been assigned your first paper at Geneseo and you have no idea where to begin. Academic journals, peer-reviewed articles and cited pages can be a headache for the untutored researcher. Luckily, reference librarians are available seven days a week to assist you in searching through academic databases as well as to help you understand the nuances of unfamiliar work cited pages. The reference desk in Milne Library is your one stop locale to help you conduct your research both inside the library and on the internet.
Mail:
Every student at Geneseo, whether living on or off campus, is assigned a mailbox in the College Union mailroom. All physical mail that is sent to you, either from the college or through the post office, will be delivered to this mailbox. Check your box regularly! If you forget the combination, that info can be found on your myGeneseo account.
Math Learning Center:
Calculus got you down? You can get help at the Math Learning Center on the third floor of South Hall. The MLC is staffed by students who have taken the same courses as you are doing now. The tutoring is free and the Center is open days and evenings. See the website for hours.
myCourses:
Mycourses is a website that allows faculty and students to share course material and engage each other in intellectual and purposeful dialogue outside the classroom setting. MyCourses is quickly becoming a necessary site for all Geneseo students not only because it is where many professors post their class syllabi and course readings, but also because an increasing number of assignments are being collected and submitted through the website. With a drop box for online submissions, and message boards for out of class discussion, many courses offered at Geneseo are becoming dependent on the electronic resources that myCourses offers faculty and students.
myGeneseo:
Geneseo has attempted to make navigation of your online college-related resources as easy as possible with creation of the web site MyGeneseo.edu. By logging into this single web page, you will immediately have access to your e-mail inbox, your Knightweb account, and academic information, as well as your meal plan and printer balances. Referred to in cyber lingo as an Information Portal, myGeneseo is a customizable web site, allowing the user to add what are called portlets, or applications, and giving students the option to personalize their web page. Additional portlets include Geneseo news, weather, local cinema show times and much more.
Writing Learning Center:
Whether you’ve just finished a paper and would like to have an objective eye look over it, or you’re just getting started and need some help brainstorming, the Writing Learning Center is the place to go. With its two locations, in the English Department and in Milne Library, the Writing Learning Center is staffed by experienced student writers to aid you in all your paper writing endeavors. The student tutors are trained to help you brainstorm, organize your thoughts, write a thesis statement, develop ideas, tackle grammar problems and cite sources. Check out their website here to make an appointment or simply drop in at Milne Library during walk-in hours.
