Welcome from the
Alcohol & Other Drug
Program Coordinator!

Sarah

Welcome!  I'm Sarah Covell, Health & Counseling's AOD (Alcohol & Other Drug) Program Coordinator.  I am very excited to be a part of the Geneseo community!

Here are some of the things I do campus:

  • Educate students through programs such as Basics and Choices.

  • Meet with students for individual consultations to discuss any potential alcohol and/or other drug concerns (if you are interested in scheduling a consultation with me, please call the Health & Counseling secretary at 585-245-5716).

  • Work with students looking to change their substance use though SUMMiT (Substance Use Moderation through Mindfulness Training), an education and support group centered on learning  and practicing mindfulness skills.
  • Develop and expand my position on campus based on suggestions from YOU!  (Have a suggestion about what you would like to see me doing on campus?  Please feel free to email me!)

Parents as Partners

Working together to prevent
campus alcohol abuse

Each year in the United States:

  • 1,825 college students (aged 18-‐24) die from alcohol-‐related injuries;
  • 696,000 students are assaulted by another student who has been drinking;
  • 97,000 students are victims of alcohol-‐related sexual assault or date rape;
  • 400,000 students had unprotected sex and more than 100,000 students report having been too intoxicated to know if they consented to having sex;
  • About 25% of college students report academic consequences of their drinking including missing class, falling behind, doing poorly on exams or papers, and receiving lower grades overall;
  • More than 150,000 students develop an alcohol-‐related health problem;
  • 110,000 students are arrested for an alcohol-‐related violation.

Finally, 95% of crimes committed on college campuses in the U.S. involve alcohol, including 90% of all rapes.

The good news is...
you CAN make a difference!
