Our Clinical Director, Beth Cholette, Ph.D., offers a summer orientation program for parents which is designed to help facilitate the entire family's transition to a student's first year of college. Below are some questions she asks both to stimulate discussion and to encourage parents to do some advanced planning about how they might handle various types of common situations experienced by college students.
What would you do if your son or daughter...
- Gets a tattoo/body piercing?
- Hates his/her new roommate?
- Has an overnight guest of the opposite sex?
- Is homesick?
- Fails an exam/class?
- Asks for money?
- Decides not to come home for Thanksgiving?
- Wants to study abroad?
- Admits to using alcohol?
- Contracts an STI/STD?
