Gender-Neutral Housing Suite Application:  2013 - 2014

A Brief History of Gender-Neutral Housing:

Since the Fall 2009 semester, we have been proud to offer a gender-neutral housing option in Genesee Hall for students who might benefit from living in this environment.

Gender-Neutral Housing allows for students to live with each other regardless of how they identify with respect to gender.  This means that, for example, male students can live with female students -- either in the same bedroom or within the same suite.

We believe that Gender-Neutral Housing provides a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere, not just for those who are questioning their gender identity or who are transgender, but for all students.

If you wish to apply for a Gender-Neutral suite for the 2013 - 2014 school year, you should complete this application in its entirety by the deadline of Friday, March 1, 2013.  All students who are applying for a Gender-Neutral suite must also pay housing deposits by Friday, March 1st.  If any member of your suite group neglects to pay their housing deposit by this deadline, your group will be penalized, reducing the likelihood that you will earn a Gender-Neutral suite.

Only 1 application is needed for each suite group.  The Suite Captain will receive all correspondence from the Residence Life Office pertaining to application status, priority numbers, and Gender-Neutral Housing room selection.

In order for your Gender-Neutral Housing suite application to be considered, you must fill each space within the suite.  For example, if you are applying for an 8-person Gender-Neutral suite, 8 students should be identified in the application.  Suite Captains may request changes to submitted Gender-Neutral Housing applications before Friday, March 1st by sending a detailed description of these changes to

In the application, each member of your suite group will be prompted to answer the question, "Why would you benefit from living in a gender-neutral housing environment?"  You can either choose to complete the application as a group or ask group members to send their responses to this question to your Suite Captain, who would then paste all group members' responses in the application and submit the form.

Your group will not be guaranteed a Gender-Neutral suite in Genesee Hall simply by completing this application.  Your Suite Captain will be notified about whether or not your application is approved on Wednesday, March 13.
