Last year, SUNY established a new Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service which gives system-wide recognition for superior performance and extraordinary achievement by employees in the classified service. Nominees for this award must have completed three years of continuous, full-time permanent service in the position for which they were nominated and they must continuously demonstrate outstanding achievement, skill, and commitment to excellence in fulfilling the job description for the position held. The recipient receives a personal certificate of recognition and a Chancellor’s Excellence Medallion.
This year, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service goes to Christie Reed, Keyboard Specialist in Admissions. Christie was nominated by Kristine Shay, Director of Admissions.
In the nomination, Christie was consistently cited for going above and beyond to assist parents, co-workers, academic departments, staff and students seeking services from the department. The following provides specific details regarding Christie’s dedication to her position, the Admissions Office, and to the College.
Christie plays a significant leadership role in providing direction and feedback for the clerical function in the Admissions Office. She orients, trains, and provides guidance to the new staff. Her friendly, approachable demeanor makes her a natural for performing this work. She is admired by everyone in the department because of her positive work ethic and consistent high standards for doing excellent work. In her role as lead receptionist, she is the “face” of Geneseo. She connects with visitors and sets the perfect first impression of what life is like at Geneseo. She is positive, upbeat, and enthusiastic about everything she does. She is cross-trained and assumes multiple roles depending on the staffing needs of any given day. Most recently she assumed the responsibility of managing the Admissions marketing function requiring her to learn the database management system and to handle the production of special reports and marketing mailings. This is a high level role in the office and Christie jumped in and learned the function without hesitation. She is now literally cross-trained in every aspect of the Admissions Office and can jump in anywhere at any time.
Christie models on a continuous basis the qualities deserving of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in the Classified Service. We are extremely pleased to present Christie Reed with this year’s Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in the Classified Service at SUNY Geneseo.
