My Geneseo Experience:
Gearing up for an awesome final year at SUNY Geneseo, and keeping an eye on my post Geneseo future! When I immigrated to the States just over 10 years ago I would have never thought it possible that I would be matriculating from this Incredible University. I have truly fallen in love with not only the town, but also the people of this town.
As with most things in my life, I have never taken the path of least resistance and I enjoy working for what I get as the benefits are more rewarding. I started university as an international student in 2004 before realizing that I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. So I took a few years off from university and decided to give back to a nation that gave my family so much, by serving my adopted country in the Army.
I transferred to SUNY Geneseo as a sophomore (or 2nd year student) in the Fall of 2011. Geneseo didn't only look at my GPA, but they looked at my potential among other factors. After I received my orientation tour of SUNY Geneseo, along with my good mate who transferred from the same university as me, and who has since graduated, we both smiled as we realized that this was the place that we had been waiting for in order to grab life by the horns and enjoy out college experience at the same time. We were right!
I chose to study International Relations, because unless you can understand other peoples' histories and what influences them, there will always be a divide between them and yourself. International Relations will also be one of the most beneficial degrees as the world as we know it, gets proverbially smaller. With SUNY Geneseo being a smaller campus and IR being a non-mainstream degree, the classes have less than 20 students and nearly all of the students are participating due to the small class sizes. Another benefit of small classes is that its so much fun bouncing ideas around with my professors in classes, as they are so engaging and willing to answer every question I have ever asked.
Having arrived at this point in my college career is such an exciting time. There are so many possibilities for the future that Geneseo has had a hand in shaping for me. Including working for the ISSS office with one of the most cohesive and efficient work environments I have been privileged to work for.
• Scuba diving
• Creating & Editing the Orientation Notebook along with other publications for ISSS Students.
• Marketing, Social Media & Website coordination, Project assistant, Branding, Think tanking & Brainstorming.
