Name: Kayla

Hometown: Rochester, NY

Major: Sociology with a Minor in Biology

Concentration: Pre-Medicine Expected Graduation

Year: Spring 2014

Responsibilities: General office work, e-mail correspondence with current and prospective students, maintaining ISSS website Experience: I have been in the International Student & Scholar Services Office for a couple of months now and absolutely love it! It is very different from the jobs that I have held before, which are being a full-time nanny, secretary, and dental assistant. I feel very lucky to be in an office full of people that care so much for students and I am looking forward to the coming months and starting new student orientation!

Activities: Get involved! There is no better way to enjoy one's time at their univrsity than to get involved with people outside of class, whether it is being in a club, sport, or other organization. Extending yourself out to other people is the best way to make new friends and have new experiences. I am in the Royal Lady Knights (RLK), a social-service organization, which I fit into perfectly and love. It has made my experience at Geneseo so much more fulfilling with all of the volunteer work that we do on campus, in Geneseo, and in the surrounding areas. Some of the volunteer work that I have done during my time at Geneseo includes donating time to Livingston Cares, making dinner at the Ronald McDonald House, cleaning up the Geneseo Cemetery, working at the local animal shelter, writing notes and delivering flowers to children at Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, and walking in many of the several charity walks held in the Greater Rochester Area. My favorite charity walks are for Autism Speaks, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. These are all organizations that I love to support and donate time to. The friends I have made in RLK and doing volunteer work will last longer than my time here. My other hobbies include spending time outside, running, reading, and watching movies (especially documentaries). My dream job is to somehow teach people to live healthier and happier lives.
