Campus Learning Centers and Support Services

All resources listed below are FREE for all students.

Academic Peer Mentors

Academic Peer Mentors (APMs) are advanced students from a variety of majors who support fellow students to develop (or further develop) their academic skills. Mentors are available on a walk-in basis and by appointment to work on developing more effective study skills, time management strategies, exam preparation techniques, and figuring out how to get the most out of office hours, tutoring, and other resources. For hours and more information about the mentors, visit the APM website (https://www.geneseo.edu/dean_office/academic-peer-mentors-0). Information about workshops and resources -- including appointments with APMs -- will be posted on the APM website.

Campus-Wide Learning and Support Centers

The Writing Learning Center (wlc.geneseo.edu) supports student writing in all disciplines across the college from lab reports to senior theses. Everyone can use a second pair of eyes on their writing - even your professors. Make an appointment, share a copy of your writing, and get feedback on your work. Writing center tutors are available Sunday - Thursday. These services are free and available to all students.

The Math Learning Center (https://www.geneseo.edu/math/mlc) offers face-to-face assistance for 100- and 200-level mathematics courses for free. The Math Learning Center is a college-wide program because these courses serve as gateways to a variety of different majors. Students in these classes may drop in to meet with a tutor during any open hour Monday - Friday.

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program is designed to proactively support students enrolled in specific sections of traditionally challenging courses. SI sessions are offered up to twice weekly to help students increase their understanding of course material while learning applied study skills from a peer leader who has successfully completed the course. Through structured sessions in an academic setting, students are encouraged to work collaboratively to identify what to learn and how to learn it. A full list of supported courses, SI instructors, and session times can be found on the SI website (https://www.geneseo.edu/supplemental-instruction).

Discipline-Specific Learning Centers

Many academic departments host learning centers to support courses within the discipline. Geneseo students can find FREE academic support in classes ranging from accounting to zoology. All departmental tutoring information including location, courses supported, and location can be found on this Google Document
