NOTE: For both research and technology consultations, please request your session 2 or 3 days before you would like to meet with us. If your project is due before this, go directly to Milne Library's Service Desk for immediate help.

Appointments are arranged for most weekday hours when the appropriate specialist (a reference librarian for RCs and a technology specialist for TCs) is on duty.

What can I gain from scheduling an RC/TC?

Research Consultations

Beneficial for longer and more in-depth research questions, as opposed to a quick stop at the Service Desk

A one-on-one meeting with a reference librarian to help guide you through research projects such as term papers, oral presentations and literature reviews

Approximately 30 minutes of undivided attention from a reference librarian, focused strictly on your research topic

The most common appointments are made to address the following needs:

  • Getting started on a research project (i.e., identifying a topic, discovering basic research tools)
  • Evaluating the relevance and usefulness of chosen materials
  • Locating materials in and outside of the library
  • Using library services and collections such as IDS, TERC and Government Documents
  • Working with equipment such as microform readers/printers

Technology Consultations

Get personalized assistance on assigned technology projects (e.g., brochure design, multimedia presentation, e-portfolios, booktrailers)

A one-on-one or group meeting with a technology specialist to help guide you through software package basics, as well as adding special touches for a more professional product

The most common appointments are made to receive help with the following applications:

  • Resume formatting
  • E-portfolios
  • Spreadsheets and charting
  • Multimedia presentations in MS PowerPoint
  • Web 2.0 tools
