The men's basketball team traveled to Brockport tonight and dropped a 68-43 decision. In the first half, the Golden Eagles scored the opening five points on the way to a 20-4 lead with 10:29 remaining. Geneseo cut the deficit to nine points at 29-20 with 56 seconds left on a three-pointer by sophomore Ethan Estabrooks, who finished with 10 points on 4-9 from the field. In the second stanza, Geneseo trailed by 11 at 40-29 when they went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to five, but the Golden Eagles responded with 15 consecutive points for a 20-point lead and command of the contest. Senior Brandon Simpson led the attack with 12 points and eight rebounds on 5-9 shooting, senior Jordan Blair hit 3-4 on his way to eight points and senior Kyle Stevens contributed eight rebounds. Geneseo falls to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in SUNYAC and hosts New Paltz on Friday at 8 p.m.
The women's basketball team traveled to Brockport on Tuesday and dropped a 52-48 decision. Geneseo shot just 30% from the field on 18 of 60 for the game, including 3-17 from the arc. In the first half, the Blue Knights trailed by as many as 10 points at 20-10 with 10 minutes left before mounting a comeback. Sophomore Bri Dunton's steal and layup with two seconds left gave the Knights a 25-24 lead as they held the Golden Eagles to just two points over the final nine minutes of the opening stanza. In the second half, Brockport broke open the game with a 5-0 run to lead 41-36 with 11:39 remaining. Sophomore Meghan Prue, who finished with seven points, made one of two free throws with 1:56 left to draw the Knights within a point at 47-46, but Brockport scored four in a row to seal the win. Junior Alyssa Polosky scored 10 points with seven rebounds and two blocks to lead the Knights. First year Melissa Graham scored all seven of her points in the first half and junior Melissa Loughlin added six points in the second half. Geneseo falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC and host New Paltz on Friday at 6 p.m.
