Men's Ice Hockey
Sophomore Clint Olson scored a power play goal from senior Sebastian Panetta and sophomore Jimmy Powers with 2:51 remaining in regulation to give the men's hockey team a 3-3 tie at Fredonia. The Ice Knights led 1-0 at 10:33 of the first period when Jake Yard scored from Stefan Decosse and Ryan Bulach. The Blue Devils tied the game at one at 18:53 of the first, but Geneseo reclaimed the lead when Bulach slotted a goal from Decosse and David Arduin at 3:01 of the second period. Fredonia scored at 8:13 and 14:57 of the second to take a 3-2 lead at the second intermission. First year Adrian Rubeniuk made 38 saves to help preserve the tie as Geneseo moves to 9-10-2 overall and 5-6-1 in SUNYAC. The Ice Knights travel to Buffalo State on Saturday.
The women's basketball team traveled to Oneonta tonight and lost a 57-54 decision when the Red Dragons hit a three-pointer with five seconds left in the contest. Geneseo trailed 27-25 at the intermission and the hard fought contest was tied 10 times in the second half, including at 54-54 on a basket by Geneseo junior Alyssa Polosky with 1:08 to play. Polosky finished with 13 points and nine rebounds on 5-14 from the field and 3-8 from the arc and first year Lisa Rufer came off the bench to score 11 points on 4-8 from the floor and 3-6 from long range. First year Melissa Graham added 10 points and five assists and sophomore Katelyn Charbonneau chipped in 10 points. The Blue Knights won the rebound battle, 42-30, but committed 20 turnovers. The Knights fall to 12-8 overall and 8-5 in SUNYAC and travel to New Paltz on Saturday.
The men's basketball team traveled to Oneonta tonight and dropped a 71-57 decision to the Red Dragons. Geneseo could not recover from an 11-point deficit at halftime. The Blue Knights drew within four at 50-46, but a 5-0 run by Oneonta sealed the win. Senior Brandon Simpson scored 17 points with nine rebounds on 5-14 from the field and 6-8 from the line, sophomore John Drazan hit all five of his shots from the floor on the way to 12 points and sophomore Abe Miller netted 10 points with five boards on 4-7 shooting. Geneseo falls to 6-14 overall and 5-8 in SUNYAC and travels to New Paltz on Saturday.
