Saturday's Contest Summaries

Men's Basketball

Senior Brandon Simpson's baseline jumper with 10 seconds to play gave the men's basketball team a 63-61 win over host New Paltz this afternoon. Sophomore John Drazan, who finished with 14 points on 5-7 from the field, tied the game at 61 on a layup with 1:14 remaining. Sophomore Mike Hoy led Geneseo with 15 points, Simpson finished with 10 points on 5-11 from the floor and first year Marcus Hoy dished out six assists. Geneseo led by nine points in the first half at 25-16, before settling for a 31-26 lead at the half. The Blue Knights forced 15 turnovers and committed just 11, while hitting 6-18 from the three-point line. The Knights move to 7-14 overall and 6-8 in SUNYAC and host Brockport on Friday.

Men's Ice Hockey

The men's ice hockey team traveled to Buffalo State tonight and won by a score of 2-1. Sophomore Danny Scagnelli scored his second of the year from the slot on a wrist shot with 1:37 left in the first period to give Geneseo the lead. Seniors Trevor Foster and Phil Rose collected assists on the play. In the second period, first year Corbin Rosmarin found David Arduin, who passed across the crease to the left post from the right faceoff circle to sophomore Stefan Decosse, who scored from point blank range for his eighth goal of the season at 13:29. Buffalo State broke up the shutout with 4:39 to play, but sophomore Cory Gershon, who finished with 22 saves, preserved the win in nets. The Ice Knights move to 10-10-2 overall and 6-6-1 in SUNYAC play and travel to Brockport on Friday.

Indoor Track & Field

The indoor track and field team traveled to the Syracuse Invitational for a non-scoring meet and set three school records to highlight the performances. Sophomore Wenley Louis posted the top triple jump in Division III competition this season with an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 14.56 meters, senior Pat Gallagher ran a school-record time of 1:05.51 to finish second in the 500 meters and first year Rachel Serpe eclipsed her own school mark by clearing 3.10 meters in the pole vault. The Blue Knights posted several other top performances as senior Sandra Goettelman won the mile run with a time of 5:08.88, Nwana Okafor was second in the long jump with a distance of 6.86 meters and Colin Keenan placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters. The Knights travel to Cornell on Saturday.

Women's Basketball

The women's basketball team traveled to New Paltz today and dropped a tough 47-46 decision. Geneseo led by as many as 13 points in the first half at 21-8 on the way to a 27-16 lead at the intermission. The Hawks opened the second half with a 16-4 run to take a 32-31 lead. The game remained within four points the rest of the way as New Paltz took a 47-44 lead on a basket with 1:25 to play. First year Melissa Graham, who finished with nine points, hit a jumper with 41 ticks remaining to draw Geneseo within a point. After forcing a New Paltz turnover with 11 seconds left, junior Alyssa Polosky's three-pointer fell short with three seconds remaining. Polosky finished with 11 points and seven rebounds to lead Geneseo, junior Brittany Finkle made 4-5 from the floor on the way to nine points and Bri Dunton added nine points. Geneseo falls to 12-9 overall and 8-6 in SUNYAC play and host Brockport on Friday.
