The women's basketball team, seeded fourth, ended their season with a 64-51 loss at top-seeded Cortland tonight in the SUNYAC tournament semifinals. Junior All-Tournament team selection Brittany Finkle came off the bench to score 14 points with 13 rebounds on 5-13 from the floor and 4-6 from the line, while first year Melissa Graham hit 5-9 from the field and 4-5 from the arc for 14 points. Geneseo led 22-18 with 7:46 to play in the first half when the Red Dragons closed the first stanza with a 14-0 spurt to take a ten-point lead, 32-22. Geneseo trailed 38-24 with 16:29 remaining when the Knights put together a 14-4 run that included a pair of Graham long-range shots. Cortland responded with an 11-0 run of their own to lead 53-38 and Geneseo got no closer than nine points the rest of the way. Cortland held Geneseo's top three scorers, who average over 31 points per game, to 12 points on 4-23 shooting and the Red Dragons hit 18-24 (75%) from the line, while Geneseo managed just 6-10 (60%). The contest was originally scheduled for 8 p.m., was pushed back to 9 p.m. due to the weather-related travel restrictions and did not start until after 10 p.m. due to the first semifinal game between #2 Oneonta and #3 New Paltz going four overtime periods. Geneseo completes their season with a record of 16-11, doubling their win total after an 8-18 campaign in 2008-09.
