NCAA Career in Sports Forum
SUNY Geneseo student-athletes Mike Baker and Maria Barbaglia have been selected to represent the college at the annual NCAA Career in Sports Forum in selections announced recently by the NCAA.
The Forum is a four-day event where selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports with a primary focus on collegiate athletics. Thru the use of dual tracks, student-athletes will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator such as communication, networking, and recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting.
The Forum is conducted in a two-year rotation for NCAA sponsored sports with this inaugural forum for students primarily interested in coaching baseball, basketball, bowling, football, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball and wrestling.
Baker is a three-year member of the Blue Knights men's basketball team while Barbaglia is a three-season member of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams.
A junior from Ogdensburg, Baker is a history major and is interested in being an administrator in education, with possibilities of coaching basketball in his future.
Barbaglia, a junior from Weedsport, is studying Spanish with the aim of secondary teaching and coaching basketball and track and field. She lists specializing as a throws coach at the collegiate level as a possible future career.
The Forum will take place May 11-14 at the Downtown Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana and the NCAA is covering all costs of the program for the participating student-athletes.
