The women's softball team won their opening game at the Dot Richardson Tournament in Clermont, Florida this afternoon by a score of 4-0 over Ripon (WI) and dropped the nightcap to Wesleyan (CT), 6-2. In the opener, junior Janine Montera tossed a two-hit shutout with one walk and 14 strikeouts to lead Geneseo. The Blue Knights scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning and added an unearned tally in the sixth. In the fourth, junior Megan Pogemiller singled to open the inning. First year Lexi Williams and sophomore Molly Walsh each reached on an error to load the bases and junior Sam Guarrera drove in one run with an RBI groundout. Pinch hitter Mary Bostwick reached on an error by the shortstop, which brought home Williams and Walsh. In the sixth inning, senior Karen Wagner reached on an error, first year Jessica Steubing doubled and Wagner scored on an RBI groundout by Pogemiller. In the second game, Wesleyan scored a pair of runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth. Senior Katie Holm, Pogemiller and sophomore Kelsey Ogden each went 2-4 to lead the offense. Bostwick allowed three earned runs in taking the loss in the circle. Geneseo is 1-1 and faces Bethany (WV) and Frostburg (MD) on Monday.
