The women's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-10 win over Western New England College this afternoon at the Disney Complex in Orlando, Florida. Six different players scored three goals for the Blue Knights in the victory. Junior Anna Hutchings combined three goals, two assists and nine draw controls to lead the attack and senior Abby Hungerford scored three goals and two assists. Seniors Tara Murphy and Justine Thorner and first years Rachel Petrone and Lea Paris added three goals apiece. Junior Lauren Burgoon scored two goals and two assists, junior Megan Blaich contributed two goals and sophomore Christine Morra scooped five groundballs. Junior Annie Smith made four saves and allowed six goals in 46:31 and first year Julie Bernatzky made one save and allowed four goals in 13:29. The Knights are 2-0 on the season and travel to RIT on Thursday.
The women's tennis team completed their spring break trip in Orlando, Florida with a 7-2 win over St. Scholastica (Minn.) College. Sophomores Monica Vieth and Julia Passik combined to win 8-6 at first doubles, with Vieth taking a 6-4, 6-1 decision at first singles and Passik winning 6-1, 6-1 at third singles. Sophomores Melissa Baker and Lauren Johnson won 9-7 at second doubles and sophomore Katie Gayvert and first year Sarah Shields won 8-6 at third doubles. Senior Anna Lehet won 3-6, 6-4 (14-12) in the tiebreaker at fourth singles and Shields took a 6-3, 7-5 victory at sixth singles. The Blue Knights are 13-0 and host Rochester on Tuesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m.
The women's softball team split a pair of games today to run their record to 3-5 with two games remaining on their spring road trip in Clermont, Florida. In the opener, Geneseo allowed three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to fall to Keene State by a score of 7-5. Geneseo scored single runs in the first and second innings, Keene scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead, however, the Blue Knights posted three in the sixth to claim a 5-4 lead. Junior Megan Pogemiller was 1-1 with a double and RBI, Molly Walsh was 1-3 with a two-run double, senior Katie Holm was 1-3 with a run and an RBI and first year Jessica Steubing went 1-3 with two runs scored. Junior Janine Montera allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits with six strikeouts in four innings, while first year Katie Gallagher gave up three hits, three runs, one earned with four strikeouts in three innings. In the second game, Geneseo earned a split on the day with a 3-1 win over UMass-Boston. Sophomore Mary Bostwick went the distance in the circle, allowing six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Geneseo got all their runs in the first inning as Holm walked, Steubing singled and Lexi Williams smashed a two-run double. After Pogemiller reached first, a double steal scored Williams from third. Holm finished 2-2 and KK Schaus went 2-4. Geneseo completes the trip on Friday by taking on Babson (Mass.) and FDU-Florham.
