The Geneseo women's softball team hosted Rochester this afternoon and split the twinbill with the Yellowjackets. In the opener, Geneseo fell behind by a run in the first inning, but responded with a run in the second and two more in the third on the way to a 5-2 win on Vic Raschi Field. Senior Katie Holm went 2-4 with two runs, three RBI and a solo homer to pace the attack. First year Stef Rosenberg was 2-2 with an RBI double and junior Sam Guarrera was 1-3 with an RBI double, while junior Megan Pogemiller and sophomore KK Schaus were each 1-2 with a double. Junior Janine Montera picked up the win in the circle by scattering six hits, walking four and striking out five. In the nightcap, Rochester jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the top of the third inning and held on for a 4-3 victory. Rochester scored on a two-out single by Kim Grimes in the first, scored a run on a groundout and another on a wild pitch in the second and got their fourth run in the top of the third. Rochester's Madeline Skellie got the win by scattering four hits in five innings and Sara Hutchinson picked up the save with two innings of scoreless work. Geneseo scored one run in the third on an RBI double by Holm and got two unearned runs on an error with two outs in the sixth. First year Jess Steubing finished 2-3 with a run scored for the Knights and sophomore Mary Bostwick took the loss after allowing six hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Geneseo moves to 9-9 on the season and travels to Cortland on Friday.
