Women's Tennis

The women's tennis team hosted the William Smith Herons this afternoon and were defeated by a score of 5-4. The turning point in the match came during first doubles. Each team had secured one doubles point as the Herons took third doubles and Geneseo's Melissa Baker and Lauren Johnson won at second doubles, 8-5. Geneseo's first doubles tandem of sophomores Monica Vieth and Julia Passik led 7-4 when the Heron team of Joanie Hilton and Jess McCue won five consecutive games to take a 9-7 win. In singles action, Vieth defeated Amanda Slack at first singles for the Blue Knights, 6-0, 6-3, while junior Melissa Slack defeated Passik in the longest match of the day to secure the 5-4 win for William Smith, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. The Herons extended the all-time series streak to 10-0 versus Geneseo.
