The men's lacrosse team hosted Plattsburgh this afternoon and defeated the Cardinals by a score of 14-6. After falling behind 2-0, Geneseo controlled play the rest of the way, scoring four goals in a five-minute span of the first quarter and four more in a three and a half minute span in the third quarter to lead, 11-5. The Blue Knights tallied the final three goals of the game. Junior Craig Lange had a goal and seven assists and sophomore Tim Besio scored three times to lead Geneseo. Sophomore Brendan Kurpis and sophomore Chris Adams each scored two goals and one assist and senior Erik Baranowski netted two goals and won 16 of 23 faceoffs with 11 groundballs. Senior Dennis Costanza made 15 saves and allowed six goals in 57 minutes and junior defender Joe May caused three turnovers and had four groundballs. The Knights move to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC and travels to Oneonta on Saturday.
The women's lacrosse team led 15-5 at halftime and cruised to a 22-14 victory at Oswego this afternoon. Junior Anna Hutchings scored five goals with two assists and nine draw controls to lead the Blue Knights. Senior Abby Hungerford scored four goals and three assists and senior Tara Murphy netted five goals for Geneseo. First year Rachel Petrone netted three scores and junior Lauren Burgoon scored two goals and one assist. Junior Annie Smith allowed eight goals and made six saves in 42:15 and first year Julie Bernatzky stopped three shots and allowed six goals in 17:45. The Knights move to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in SUNYAC and travel to Brockport on Tuesday.
Men's Track & Field
The men's track and field team traveled to Brockport today and finished second with 124.5 points to champion Brockport's 232.5. Geneseo's John Brotsch won the 400 meters in a time of 51.04 and Pat Gallagher was second in the event in 51.35. Senior Ken Wickey placed second in the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying time of 14.65. The Blue Knights host the Geneseo Open on Saturday with field events beginning at 9 a.m. and running events starting at 10 a.m.
Women's Track & Field
The women's track and field team participated at Brockport this afternoon and placed third with 131 points behind Rochester (238.83) and the host Golden Eagles (164.83). Senior Kristin Shumway won the 400 meters in 60.29 and the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters. Geneseo's Jessica Jaroszko was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.56 and Brittany Talani was second in the discus with a toss of 32.92 meters. The team hosts the Geneseo Open on Saturday, with field events beginning at 9 a.m. and the running events starting at 10 a.m.
