The Eighth Annual Roundtable Athletic Association Blue Knight Golf Open had a record 111 participants on Saturday, May 22 at the Livingston Country Club in Geneseo.
Despite the forecast, rainy weather stayed out of the Genesee Valley for the duration of the tournament as the golfers enjoyed their round of golf, along with lunch and a steak dinner provided by The Nines at Livingston.
Three teams tied with a score of 11-under par, 61, to take home the team prizes. Using tiebreaker procedures, the team sponsored by Five Star Bank with Eric Barnard, John Haugh, Doug Welch and Pete Scorsone were declared the winners of the tournament. The team of Tom Pope, Jeff Pope, Max Payne and Brennan Payne finished second and the team of Jim Clar '89, J.C. DeLass '86, Mike Gagnier '91 and George Gagnier '88 finished third.
In the individual contests, Sue Michalek claimed the women's long drive and Barb Powell Dembs won the women's closest to the pin. For the men, Scott Brugler won the long drive and Bill Mason '92 won the closest to the pin.
The SUNY Geneseo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation and the Roundtable Athletic Association thank the golfers and many local businesses serving as tournament, contest and prize sponsors. A special thanks to The Big Tree Inn/Campus Auxiliary Services for sponsoring the awards dinner, Clough Harbor & Associates for sponsoring the lunch and Dr. Myrtle Merritt for sponsoring the golf carts.
