Junior transfer Anne Beinetti provided an immediate offensive impact to the Geneseo attack by scoring two goals to lead the women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Clarkson in the first round of the Lotto Tournament at St. Lawrence this afternoon in the season opener. First year Olivia Panepinto scored the opening goal on an assist from junior Kelly Bergin to give the Knights a 1-0 lead at intermission. Geneseo erupted for four scores in the second stanza as Beinetti scored unassisted, junior Bre Glynn scored from senior Ashley Keogh, Beinetti notched her second from junior Melanie Rocchio and Clarkson scored an own goal to complete the barrage. Senior Katie Clerkin made five saves to post the shutout in nets. Geneseo takes on the host St. Lawrence Saints in the title tilt on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The women's volleyball team travelled to New York University and dropped their opening match of the weekend to the hosts, 25-17, 25-6, 25-15. Senior Krista Frieling led the attack with six kills, first year Noelle Morrison added 12 assists with nine digs and sophomore Laura Galvin contributed nine digs. In the second match, Geneseo defeated Polytechnic by scores of 26-24, 25-19, 26-24. Morrison handed out 29 assists and Galvin posted 27 digs to lead Geneseo. Frieling contributed 12 kills and first year Alex Wende added 10 kills. The Blue Knights continue with the tournament by taking on Coast Guard and FDU-Florham on Saturday.
