Women's Field Hockey
The women's field hockey team traveled to Morrisville and won their fifth straight game as senior Michelle Milkovich scored a goal and an assist on the way to a 3-0 win. Senior Erin Zalewski and first year Katie Farley scored goals for the Blue Knights and first year Kayla DeAngelis assisted on the Milkovich goal. Sophomore Caitlyn Dowell made two saves to post the shutout in nets as Geneseo had 36 shots to eight for Morrisville. The Blue Knights are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in SUNYAC and travel to Cortland on Friday.
The women's volleyball team continued with SUNYAC West round robin pool play at Geneseo today and defeated the Buffalo State Bengals in the opening match, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16. The turning point came in set two, when junior Jackie Inserillo served 10 consecutive points to erase a 19-13 deficit and give the Blue Knights a four-point lead on the way to the three-point win. Senior Krista Frieling led the attack with 16 kills and first year Noelle Morrison handed out 33 assists. Inserillo finished with three service aces and sophomore Laura Galvin contributed 15 digs. In the final contest of the weekend, Geneseo defeated Oswego, 25-13, 25-20, 25-16. Morrison had 26 assists and 10 digs and Frieling totaled 12 kills to lead the Blue Knights. Galvin added nine digs and three service aces. The Knights are 8-11 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC and host the Roberts Wesleyan Raiders on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The women's soccer team hosted Plattsburgh and played to a 0-0 draw. Geneseo had 12 shots to Plattsburgh's 10, but the Cardinals had the better scoring opportunities. Early in the second half, the Cardinals had a shot headed off the goal line by Geneseo's Ashley Keogh. Late in the second half, Plattsburgh had a goal disallowed on a corner kick as the linesman deemed the ball out of play on the endline prior to being deflected into the goal. Senior Katie Clerkin made five saves to post the shutout in goal for the Blue Knights as they move to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in SUNYAC. The Knights travel to Oneonta on Friday.
The men's soccer team traveled to Plattsburgh and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Cardinals. Plattsburgh scored late in the first half at 41:28 to take the lead and added a pair of goals in the second half as they controlled the shot count, 17-14. Senior Mike Madarasz made two saves and allowed two goals in 73:35, while Sam Murphy stopped two shots and allowed one goal in 16:25. Geneseo is 4-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in SUNYAC and hosts Oneonta on Friday at 4 p.m.
