Women's Field Hockey
Senior Michelle Milkovich scored her sixth goal of the season at the 5:24 mark of overtime off an assist from senior Erin Zalewski to send the women's field hockey team to a 2-1 win over nationally seventh-ranked Cortland, giving the Blue Knights their first win over the Red Dragons in 11 tries all-time and extending their win streak to six contests. After a scoreless first half, first year Katie Farley scored her fourth of the year off her own rebound to give Geneseo a 1-0 lead at 39:34. Cortland evened the game at 56:49 when Sara Woodward crossed to Brianna Yetsko at the left post for her first goal of the season. Geneseo had 17 shots to 10 for Cortland and led the corner battle, 11-9. Sophomore Caitlyn Dowell made all three of her saves in the overtime period to post the win in nets. Geneseo is 7-1 overall and 4-0 in SUNYAC and travels to Oswego on Saturday.
The women's volleyball team traveled to the Nazareth Invitational tonight and split a pair of matches. In the opener, Geneseo won a five-set thriller over Brockport. The Blue Knights won the opening two sets, 25-15, 25-14, before falling in the next two, 25-13, 25-18. Geneseo clinched the win with a 16-14 final set score. Senior Krista Frieling led the way with 23 kills and junior Kat Strickland added 10 kills. First year Noelle Morrison had 49 assists and Laura Galvin contributed 23 digs. In the second match, the Blue Knights lost in three to Thiel, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17. Frieling and Strickland had 11 and 7 kills, respectively, while Morrison totaled 25 assists and Galvin added 26 digs. Geneseo is 9-13 on the season and completes the tournament on Saturday.
The men's soccer team hosted Oneonta this afternoon and dropped a 1-0 decision. The Red Dragons scored 7:47 into the match and made the lone goal stand. Oneonta crossed a ball to the right post, which was sent back to the middle and tapped home from three yards out. Junior Sam Murphy made four saves as the Red Dragons controlled the shot count, 12-8 and the corner tally, 6-4. The Blue Knights had two chances to tie late in the match as a loose ball collected by junior Ian Mort was fired just high from seven yards out and the Oneonta goaltender made a diving save on a volley by first year Ryan Yurchak off a corner kick opportunity. Geneseo falls to 4-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in SUNYAC and hosts New Paltz on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The women's soccer team traveled to Oneonta and dropped a 3-0 contest to the Red Dragons. Oneonta posted 12 shots to six for Geneseo as the Red Dragons scored once in the first half at 12:31 and added second-half goals at 54:34 and 72:03. Senior Katie Clerkin made four saves in taking the loss as the Blue Knights fall to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in SUNYAC. Geneseo travels to New Paltz on Saturday at 1 p.m.
