The women's tennis team completed play at the SUNYAC tournament this afternoon and the Blue Knights finished second with 36 points, snapping their two-year hold on the title, as New Paltz captured the championship with 42 points. In the singles championships this morning, Geneseo won a pair of individual titles as first year Lucy Mehrabyan won at second singles, 3-0, injury default and sophomore Sarah Shields defeated Ali Esposito of New Paltz at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1. Geneseo had three players defeated in the championship match as junior Monica Vieth was upset by Cortland's Loraine Jelinek at first singles, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, junior Katie Gayvert lost to New Paltz's Kayla DiPaulo in fourth singles, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (3) and Paige Munroe of New Paltz beat Geneseo's Katie Talbot at sixth singles, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles action, Geneseo won a pair of championships as Mehrabyan and Melissa Baker won by default over New Paltz, while Gayvert and Shields defeated the Hawk team, 6-4, 6-1.
