Women's Field Hockey
Senior Michelle Milkovich handed out two assists to break her own school record for assists in a season in leading the women's field hockey team to a 4-1 win over visiting Ithaca College this afternoon. Milkovich set up senior Stephanie Maisonet at 17:21 off a penalty corner to open the scoring and assisted on Bridget McGovern's goal at 30:17 on a corner to give the Blue Knights a 2-0 advantage. Milkovich has 12 helpers on the season after setting the previous mark of 11 in 2009. First year Katie Farley scored on a corner with the assist credited to junior Abby Sayler at 37:33 to make it 3-0 and sophomore Annie O'Neill scored on a rebound at 46:40 to make it 4-0. Ithaca scored at 55:33 to complete the scoring. Sophomore Caitlyn Dowell made five saves to post the win in 61 minutes of play, while classmate Nicole Zito went untested in the final nine minutes. Geneseo wins their 14th straight game to move to 15-1 on the season and travels to William Smith on Saturday.
Junior Kelly Bergin scored her 12th goal of the season on a penalty kick at 55:05 to give Geneseo a 1-0 victory over visiting Nazareth College this afternoon. In a closely contested match, both teams had nine shots and Nazareth collected two corner kicks to none for Geneseo. Senior Katie Clerkin made four saves to post the shutout in nets for the Blue Knights. Geneseo advances to 12-5-0 on the season and travels to Cortland to face the Red Dragons on Saturday in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.
The women's volleyball team traveled to Elmira tonight and fell to the Soaring Eagles, 25-17, 25-23, 20-25, 25-14. Senior Krista Frieling had 13 kills and junior Kat Strickland added eight kills and five blocks to lead the Blue Knights. First year Noelle Morrison dished 33 assists, sophomore Laura Galvin had 16 digs and first year Ronnie Guszsca added eight kills. Geneseo falls to 12-21 on the season and hosts St. John Fisher at 12 p.m. and Potsdam at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the regular season finale.
