The men's basketball team opened the second half on a 17-0 run to erase a seven-point intermission deficit on their way to a season-opening 69-63 win over visiting Medaille College. Sophomore Ryan Riefenhauser scored eight of his 14 points during the stretch, shot five of nine from the field and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to pace Geneseo. Medaille led by as many as 10 points at 30-20 with 3:21 left in the opening period, but a three-point play by junior Mike Hoy and a jumper with one second left by first year Matt Curry helped cut the lead to 34-27. Geneseo's largest lead in the second stanza came at 53-41 with 7:34 to go on a jumper by sophomore Marcus Hoy. Medaille got no closer than five points at 63-58 with 1:20 left after back-to-back three-pointers. Mike Hoy scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half with three assists and three steals, junior John Drazan added eight points and senior Nate Cornish went 6-6 from the charity stripe in the final minutes to help seal the win as Geneseo finished 25 of 28 (89.3%) from the line for the contest. The Blue Knights travel to Hartwick on Friday and Saturday for the Hawk tournament.
