Junior John Drazan hit 5-7 from the floor and 8-10 from the line for 18 points with seven rebounds to lead the men's basketball team to an 81-77 come-from-behind victory over Mt. St. Mary's in the opening game of the Hartwick tournament tonight. Mt. St. Mary broke a 66-66 deadlock with a 10-2 run to take an eight-point lead with 2:49 remaining, but senior Nate Cornish's free throw with 30 seconds remaining capped an 11-0 run for Geneseo. First year Connor Fedge hit 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from the line and classmate Jordan Jones hit 5-12 from the floor and 2-3 from the stripe for 12 points each and junior Mike Hoy added 10 points. The Blue Knights are 2-0 and will play in the title game on Saturday.
Men's Ice Hockey
Junior Jonathan Redlick scored with 4:49 remaining in the third period to give the Geneseo Ice Knights a 3-2 win over host Brockport tonight. The Ice Knights capitalized on a turnover in the neutral zone as sophomore Blake O'Connor intercepted a pass and fed it to the blue line to sophomore Ryan Bulach, who slid a backhand pass to a streaking Redlick on the right wing. In the first period, Geneseo took a 1-0 lead as Andrew Rygiel scored from junior Danny Scagnelli and sophomore netminder Adrian Rubeniuk at 6:15. After Brockport tied the game at 9:55, Scagnelli scored from Redlick at 11:29 on the power play. The Golden Eagles evened the game at 10:06 of the second period on the power play leading to Redlick's heroics. Rubeniuk made 19 saves to post the win as Geneseo controlled the shots 37-21. The Ice Knights move to 5-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in SUNYAC and travel to Hobart on Saturday.
