Senior Brittany Finkle hit 5-9 from the field and 6-6 from the line for 16 points off the bench with five rebounds and three steals to lead host Geneseo past Brockport, 61-52. Brockport scored the opening seven points of the game before the Blue Knights responded with a 21-6 run to lead 21-13, including an 8-0 spurt over nearly five minutes that saw sophomore Melissa Graham score six of her 12 points to go along with her five boards, three assists and two thefts. Geneseo led 28-20 at the intermission and the Golden Eagles never got closer than five in the second stanza. Junior Katelyn Charbonneau added 12 points for Geneseo including 4-5 from the charity stripe as the Knights finished 15-20 (75%) from the line as a team. Sophomore Meghan Prue added eight rebounds and senior Alyssa Polosky contributed eight points. Brockport's Rachel Csaakany paced the Golden Eagles with 13 points and eight boards on 6-8 shooting. Geneseo moves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC. The Blue Knights are off for the semester break and return to action on Tuesday, January 4 at Alfred.
The men's basketball team hosted Brockport tonight and fell by a score of 59-58 as the Knights had a pair of chances in the waning moments but could not convert the game winner. Brockport used a 14-4 run late in the second half to take a 55-47 lead with 3:29 remaining, but Geneseo responded with a 9-2 run to cut the lead to one on a three-pointer by Ethan Estabrooks, who paced Geneseo with 14 points on 5-15 shooting from the field, 2-8 from arc and 2-2 from the line. Brockport's Gerald Williams hit a layup with 1:02 left to give the Golden Eagles a 59-56 lead, but first year Lamont Stokes hit a shot with 45 ticks left to make the final score. In the first half, Brockport jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the initial four minutes, but Geneseo recovered with a 19-2 run as junior Abe Miller scored all 11 of his points in the first half on 5-7 from the field on the way to a 30-25 Geneseo lead at intermission. Brockport got 20 points and 14 rebounds from Kyheem Green and Anthony Hall scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half. The Blue Knights fall to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC and are off until traveling to D'Youville on Monday, January 3.
