Friday's Contest Summaries

Women's Basketball

Junior Katelyn Charbonneau's lay-in with one second left gave the Geneseo Blue Knights a dramatic 54-52 win over visiting New Paltz tonight to hand the Hawks their first conference loss. New Paltz's Maliqua Fisher, who finished with 14 points, tied the game at 52 with a coast-to-coast layup with 58 seconds remaining. Each team had shot opportunities in the final minute before Geneseo gained possession on a rebound battle that went out-of-bounds with eight seconds left, having to go the length of the floor. On the inbounds, sophomore Melissa Graham received the pass and found junior Bri Dunton on the right sideline at midcourt. As Dunton advanced the ball up the floor, Charbonneau broke free behind the defense and made the uncontested layup with one tick left. Senior Brittany Finkle scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the first half and grabbed nine rebounds, while classmate Alyssa Polosky added 11 points and a game-best 13 boards. Dunton finished with five assists, while Graham and senior Khadija Campbell had six points and nine rebounds each as Geneseo controlled the glass, 54-38. The Blue Knights move to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in SUNYAC and host Oneonta on Saturday at 2 p.m.
