Tuesday's Contest Summary

Women's Basketball

For the second consecutive Tuesday night, the Geneseo women's basketball team escaped with an overtime win, gaining their 10th straight victory with a 69-66 decision at Fredonia. The Blue Knights won an 80-71 overtime struggle at Buffalo State last Tuesday. Senior Khadija Campbell scored nine of Geneseo's 15 points in the extra session as the Blue Knights scored the opening five points of overtime to take command. Sophomore Melissa Graham led the way with 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks and junior Bri Dunton scored 11 points with seven caroms. Sophomore Meghan Prue added nine points and senior Brittany Finkle snared 10 rebounds.In the first half, Geneseo raced to a 27-13 lead with 5:39 remaining on a three-pointer by junior Katelyn Charbonneau before settling for a 29-18 lead at intermission. In the second half, a 12-4 run helped Fredonia draw within one point at 50-49 with 4:13 to play. The Blue Devils tied the game on a three-pointer with 36 seconds to play and Geneseo missed three attempts in the final five seconds to put the game into overtime, 54-54. Geneseo moves to 14-2 overall and 9-0 in SUNYAC and travel to Brockport on Friday.


Men's Basketball

Junior Mike Hoy scored all of his game-high 18 points in the second half to lead Geneseo past host Fredonia, 72-68. Hoy finished 5-10 from the field, 3-5 from the arc and 5-8 from the line for the Blue Knights. Geneseo trailed 18-11 early in the first half, but came back to tie it at 32 with two seconds left in the half on a three-pointer by first year Thomas Decker, who finished with nine points on 3-3 from the field, 1-1 from the arc and 2-2 from the line. In the second half, the closely contested game was broken open when the Blue Knights used an 8-2 run to take a 63-56 lead. Sophomore Ryan Riefenhauser hit 7-10 from the floor on his way to 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists and first year Jordan Jones hit 6-12 from the field and 2-4 from the stripe for 14 points. Junior Abe Miller added six points and seven caroms and first year Lamont Stokes hit 4-5 on his way to nine points. Geneseo moves to 8-8 overall and 2-7 in SUNYAC and travels to Brockport on Friday.
