Saturday's Contest Summaries

Men's Swimming & Diving

Head coach Paul Dotterweich won his 100th victory against just seven losses in his 11 seasons for Geneseo and the Blue Wave moved their dual meet win streak to 54 with a 203-95 win over host Oswego this afternoon. Geneseo's Jan Dokonal and Wills DeMoulin each won a pair of events for the Blue Wave as Dokonal took the 200 free (1:51.14) and the 200 back (2:05.16) and DeMoulin won both boards, 309.25 on the three-meter and 296.10 on the one-meter. The Blue Wave had eight other winners as Jeff Singer won the 1,000 free (18:02.02), CJ Schaub won the 100 back in 57.59, Aaron Wagner took the 200 fly in 2:06.06, Dan Strothenke won the 50 free in 21.62, Greg Marks won the 200 breast in 2:16.68, Michael Shrago captured the 500 free in 5:02.07 and Josh Kaplan won the 100 fly in 54.23. Geneseo is 12-0 on the season and participates in the SUNYAC Championships on February 10-12.


Men's Ice Hockey

Junior David Arduin scored a pair of power play goals to lead #10 Geneseo to a 4-1 SUNYAC win over visiting Morrisville this afternoon. Geneseo scored three times in the first period as Carson Schell netted his third of the season on a rebound with Andrew Rygiel and Jimmy Powers picking up assists just 1:49 into the game. Junior Jonathan Redlick made it 2-0 at 8:19 on assists from Rich Manley and Zachary Vit. Arduin netted the first of his two goals at 15:30 from Redlick and gave the Ice Knights a 4-0 lead at 6:15 of the second period with his ninth of the season from Stefan Decosse and Jake Yard. Morrisville scored their lone goal with the extra man at 16:21 of the second. The third period was scoreless and penalty-filled as the teams combined for 48 minutes of infractions. Junior Cory Gershon made 28 saves to post the win as Geneseo moves to 13-5-2 overall and 7-3-1 in SUNYAC. The Ice Knights host Fredonia on Friday at 7 p.m.


Women's Swimming &Diving

The women's swimming and diving team won a 167-130 victory at Oswego this afternoon to run their record to 10-2 on the season. Senior Jennifer Anthone and Corinne Vairo won two events each for Geneseo. Anthone won the 200 free in 2:02.15 and the 100 fly in 1:00.79, while Vairo captured the 200 back in 2:17.54 and the 200 IM in 2:17.84. Geneseo had three other winners this afternoon as Lauren Boyce won the 100 free in 56.06, Elyssa Max took the 50 free in 25.69 and Kaitlin Wilcoxen won the 200 breast in 2:33.71. Geneseo will defend their championship at the SUNYAC meet on February 10-12.


Men's Track & Field

The men's track and field team traveled to the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Friday and Saturday for a non-scoring meet. Junior Lee Berube highlighted the performances by finishing seventh in the mile run with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:09.15 and anchoring the winning Distance Medley Relay team of Mark Streb, Niko Brown and Kevin Bronson to an NCAA automatic qualifying, school and SUNYAC record time of 9:53.21. Clark placed 21st in the mile in an NCAA provisional time of 4:14.14, junior Eddie Novara finished 20th in the 5,000 meters with an NCAA provisional time of 14:42.30 and senior Mike McManus won the high jump with an NCAA provisional height of 2.05 meters. In addition, junior Nwana Okafor won the long jump with a distance of 6.65 meters, junior Colin Keenan tied for 11th in the high jump with 1.88 meters, senior Eric Rickman placed third in the shot put with 14.14 meters and the 4X400 relay team of Brown, Jesse Cleary-Krell, Nathaniel DeBoever and Jon Brotsch finished 22nd in 3:28.51. Geneseo travels to Hamilton on Saturday.


Women's Track & Field

The women's track and field team traveled to the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Marissa Liberati finished 19th in the 5,000 meters in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:22.37 to highlight the performances. First year Mary Aldridge placed ninth in the 800 meters in 2:17.02, while Kelly Brunscheen finished 16th in the same event in 2:18.46. First year Celeste Hoelzl was 16th in the 1,000 meters in 3:09.12 and the Distance Medley Relay team of Alyssa Smith, Victoria Kuberka, Brunscheen and Liberati placed seventh in 12:24.90. Geneseo travels to Hamilton on Saturday, February 5.
