Senior Brittany Finkle hit 6-9 from the field and 4-5 from the line to equal her career-high of 16 points with six steals in leading host Geneseo to their 14th straight win, 77-48 over Plattsburgh. Geneseo used a 14-1 run to open the second half and pull away from a 27-18 intermission lead. Sophomore Melissa Graham hit 5-7 from the field and 2-2 from long range and the foul line for 14 points with eight rebounds and senior Alyssa Polosky made 6-12 from the floor on her way to 14 points. Geneseo advances to 18-2 overall and 13-0 in SUNYAC and travels to Oneonta on Friday.
Men's Ice Hockey
First year Zachary Vit scored a goal with two assists to lead the #7 Geneseo Ice Knights past visiting Buffalo State by a score of 3-2. After a scoreless first period, all five goals in the game came in the second frame as Geneseo scored three times on the power play. Vit opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the period with Jake Yard and Rich Manley picking up the helpers. At the 1:16 mark, Geneseo took a 2-0 lead as junior Jonathan Redlick netted his eighth of the season from Vit and junior Danny Scagnelli. The Bengals bounced back with goals at 5:47 and 8:33 to tie the game at two. Geneseo got the game winner at 18:31 when Redlick won the faceoff and Vit poked the puck back to Scagnelli, who blasted a slap shot past the Bengal netminder for his sixth of the year. Junior Cory Gershon posted the win in goal by making 21 saves as the Ice Knights move to 15-5-2 overall and 9-3-1 in SUNYAC.
The Geneseo men's basketball team hosted Plattsburgh this afternoon and dropped a 67-58 decision. The Blue Knights shot just 32% in the first half as they trailed 33-20. In the second stanza, Geneseo trailed by 15 at 53-38 before going on a 12-2 run to cut the lead to five points with 5:42 to play. Plattsburgh scored the next six points to put the game away. Junior Mike Hoy hit 5-9 from the floor, 4-8 from the arc and 5-9 from the line for 19 points to pace Geneseo. Junior Ethan Estabrooks added 15 points and sophomore Ryan Riefenhauser added eight points and nine rebounds. The Blue Knights fall to 9-11 overall and 3-10 in SUNYAC and travel to Oneonta on Friday.
Women's Indoor Track & Field
The women's indoor track and field team traveled to Hamilton for a non-scoring meet today. Geneseo had five winners as Danae Polsin won the 5,000 meters in 19:06, junior Alyssa Smith won the mile in 5:15.54, Carolyn Mahon captured the 500 meters in 1:23.58, Esther Lok crossed first in the 3,000 meters in 11:06.31 and sophomore Jessica Shumway won the high jump with a height of 1.53 meters. Geneseo travels to Cornell on Saturday.
Men's Indoor Track & Field
The men's indoor track and field team participated in a non-scoring meet at Hamilton this afternoon and had two winners and three second place performances. Senior Bobby Henchen won the 3,000 meters in 8:52.65 and senior Eric Rickman won the shot put with a toss of 15.28 meters for the Blue Knights. Junior Nwana Okafor placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.86 meters, while the Distance Medley Relay team of Kevin Pond, Nathaniel DeBoever, Tim Kramer and Tim Chambers placed second in 10:52.35 and the 4X200 relay of Jesse Cleary-Krell, Jon Brotsch, Niko Brown and Matthew Hart were second in a time of 1:34.76. The Blue Knights travel to Cornell on Saturday.
