Junior Bri Dunton scored 15 points on 5-9 from the floor, 2-2 from the arc and 3-6 from the line as the Geneseo women's basketball team won their 15th straight game by defeating host Oneonta, 60-48. Senior Khadija Campbell hit 5-12 on her way to 13 points with six rebounds and six steals and senior Alyssa Polosky added 13 points, including 3-6 from long range. Campbell's three-pointer with seven seconds left in the opening half gave Geneseo a 28-22 lead. After Oneonta drew within three at 28-25, Dunton's basket capped a 16-4 run that gave Geneseo a 44-29 lead with 11:27 to play. Senior Brittany Finkle chipped in with nine rebounds and five steals. The Blue Knights move to 19-2 overall and 14-0 in SUNYAC and travel to New Paltz on Saturday.
Men's Ice Hockey
The Geneseo men's ice hockey team, currently ranked #6 by USCHO.com, was upset tonight by visiting Brockport, 3-2, as senior Chris Berardini scored a goal and an assist and junior goalie Oliver Wren made 41 saves. Geneseo opened the scoring at 6:46 when first year Rich Manley netted his 11th of the season from Jonathan Redlick and Danny Scagnelli on the power play. Brockport took the lead with a pair of second period goals, but Geneseo tied the game at 1:26 of the third when first year Zachary Vit netted his 11th of the season from Redlick and Manley. Brockport got the game-winner at the 9:40 mark on Berardini's goal. Sophomore Adrian Rubeniuk made 25 saves for Geneseo as they fall to 15-6-2 overall and 9-4-1 in SUNYAC. Brockport advances to 4-16-3, 2-11-1. The Ice Knights travel to Cortland on Friday needing a win to clinch the #2 seed for the upcoming SUNYAC playoffs.
The Geneseo men's basketball team rallied from a 13-point deficit at halftime, but fell short in their comeback bid as they lost to host Oneonta tonight, 64-62. Sophomore Ryan Riefenhauser made 6-10 from the field and 3-5 from the line on his way to 16 points to lead Geneseo and junior Abe Miller added 13 points and nine rebounds on 6-10 shooting. Senior Mike Baker contributed 13 points on 5-10 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc and 2-2 from the line and junior Ethan Estabrooks finished with 10 points on 3-4, 2-3 and 2-2. Geneseo got off to a slow start and trailed 22-9, but used a 7-0 run to draw within six. Oneonta used a 9-2 advantage to go into the intermission with a 31-18 lead. Trailing 47-39, Geneseo used a 13-3 run in the second half to draw within two at 52-50 on Miller's bucket and the Blue Knights got a long range jumper from Estabrooks to draw within one at 63-62 with 18 ticks remaining. After a free throw with 14 seconds left by Oneonta, Geneseo failed in their bid to tie the game at the buzzer. The Blue Knights fall to 9-12 overall and 3-11 in SUNYAC play and travel to New Paltz on Saturday.
