Saturday's Contest Summaries

Men's Basketball

Junior John Drazan hit 4-8 from the field and 2-2 from the line for 10 points to lead the Geneseo men's basketball team to a 58-46 win over host New Paltz. Senior Mike Baker hit 4-7 shots on his way to nine points and five rebounds and sophomore Ryan Riefenhauser added seven points and 10 rebounds in the Geneseo balanced attack. In a bizarre first half, New Paltz scored the game's first basket 4:55 into the contest and Geneseo made it 3-2 on a basket by Connor Fedge with 12:31 to play. The Blue Knights trailed 7-2 before going on a 16-0 run on their way to a 27-20 lead at the intermission. Geneseo's largest lead was 17 points at 49-32 with 5:38 to go in the game. The Blue Knights move to 10-12 overall and 4-11 in SUNYAC and host Fredonia on Tuesday at 8 p.m.


Women's Basketball

The Geneseo women's basketball team suffered their first SUNYAC loss of the season and had their 15-game win streak snapped by host New Paltz, 53-47. The Blue Knights trailed 25-21 at half after shooting 5-20 from the field and 10-19 from the line and the Hawks took command of the game with a 12-2 run early in the second half which resulted in a 37-23 lead. Senior Alyssa Polosky scored 13 points, sophomore Melissa Graham netted nine points and eight rebounds and senior Khadija Campbell added nine points, five boards and three steals. Geneseo suffered through a tough shooting afternoon and were outrebounded, 58-37, as they finished 14-48 (29%) from the floor, 3-15 (20%) from the arc and 16-28 (57%) from the line. Geneseo falls to 19-3 overall and 14-1 in SUNYAC and hosts Fredonia on Tuesday at 6 p.m.


Indoor Track & Field

The indoor track and field team traveled to Cornell on Saturday for the Kane Invitational, a non-scoring meet. On the women's side, sophomore Marissa Liberati posted a third-place time of 9:54.52 in the 3,000 meters and junior Alyssa Smith ran a seventh-place time of 10:18.47. Sophomore Brigid Heenan ran third in the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:21.70 for the Blue Knights. On the men's side, Geneseo had several top performances. Senior Mark Streb placed second in the 1,000 meters in 2:33.45, while junior Eddie Novara and sophomore Tom Clark finished 2-3 in the 3,000 meters in 8:34.36 and 8:47.17, respectively. Senior Ryan O'Connor was third in the mile run in 4:16.96 and senior Mike McManus placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.94 meters. Geneseo travels to RIT on Friday night.
