The women's softball team split a pair of games today to open their season in Clermont, Florida. The Blue Knights defeated Wesleyan (Conn.) in the opener, 8-2, and fell to Babson in the second game, 19-11 in six innings. In the first game, senior Janine Montera got the win on the mound by scattering 10 hits, while Sam Trapasso went 3-4 with a solo homerun and two doubles and junior KK Schaus went 2-4 with a run. In the second game, Babson broke open a 4-4 tie after three innings. Trapasso went 3-4 with a double and two RBI, Schaus was 3-3 and junior Jess Steubing went 2-3 with two runs. Junior Mary Bostwick allowed 13 runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts in four innings and Katie Gallagher allowed six runs on six hits in relief. Geneseo continues the spring trip with a pair of games on Monday.
The women's lacrosse team bolted to a 17-1 lead at halftime on the way to a 24-2 victory over Sweet Briar in their season opener at the Disney Complex in Orlando, Florida. Senior Anna Hutchings, junior Johanna Trupp and first year Caroline Buonocore each collected three goals and one assist to lead the attack. Senior Annie Smith made two saves and allowed one goal in the first half, while sophomore Julie Bernatzky made two saves and allowed one goal in the second half. Geneseo takes on Wheaton (Mass.) College on Tuesday in Orlando.
