First year Caroline Buonocore scored seven goals to lead the Geneseo women's lacrosse team to a 21-7 win over Wheaton (Mass.) College on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida. Senior Anna Hutchings and sophomore Rachel Petrone netted four goals each with Hutchings winning five draw controls and Petrone handing out one assist. First year Meredith Weber scored a pair of goals and senior Lauren Burgoon dished out two assists as Geneseo jumped out to a 15-3 lead at half and out-shot Wheaton, 45-22. Senior Annie Smith went the distance in goal, making nine saves in posting the win. Geneseo is 2-0 and takes on Utica College on Wednesday at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School at 4 p.m.
The women's tennis team won a 7-2 decision over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Tuesday in their first of three matches on the spring trip to Puerto Rico. Juniors Monica Vieth and Melissa Baker teamed to win 8-3 at second doubles and junior Katie Gayvert and sophomore Sarah Shields won 8-3 at third doubles to give the Blue Knights a 2-1 lead after the doubles play. In singles action, Geneseo won five of six matches as Vieth won a 6-0, 6-2 margin at first doubles. First year Lucy Mehrabyan won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles, Gayvert captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at fourth singles, Shields dominated at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore Katie Talbot won at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-1. Geneseo is 8-1 on the season and takes on Goucher on Wednesday.
