Saturday's Contest Summaries

Women's Lacrosse

First year Caroline Buonocore, who tied the school record with seven goals in a game by a first year in last week's win over Wheaton, set the school mark by scoring eight goals, including the game-winner with 25 seconds left, as the Geneseo women's lacrosse team defeated host #19 William Smith this afternoon, 16-15. Sophomore Rachel Petrone and first year Emily Haggerty scored two goals and one assist and senior Anna Hutchings added two goals with seven draw controls for the Blue Knights. Junior Kim Magee contributed a goal and an assist and sophomore Lea Paris colleced a goal and six draw controls. Buonocore scored five times in an 8-1 run in the first half, which gave Geneseo an 11-8 lead at intermission. William Smith scored four straight in the second half to tie the game at 13 with 22:41 left and the team's traded goals the rest of the way until Buonocore's game-winner. Senior Annie Smith made 10 saves in posting the win in nets for Geneseo, who remained unbeaten on the season at 3-0. The Blue Knights host St. Lawrence on Tuesday at 4 p.m.


Men's Lacrosse

Junior Brendan Kurpis scored off an assist from senior Ray Ryan with seven seconds left in overtime to lead the Geneseo men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory over host Clarkson this afternoon. The Golden Knights led 2-0 after one, but Geneseo scored four times in the second quarter on the way to a 4-4 tie at the half. Clarkson posted three goals in the third period to lead 7-5, but senior Craig Lange and sophomore Chris Topping scored goals 11 seconds apart to tie the game at seven with 10:23 left in the fourth quarter. The game remained tied throughout the fourth and Clarkson hit a post with 36 ticks remaining in overtime before Kurpis netted the winner. Senior Bobby King finished with a goal and two assists to lead the way, Lange and first year Tim Burgess netted two goals each and Ryan added a goal and an assist. First year Ryan Zaremba made 14 saves in posting the win in goal. Geneseo evens their record at 3-3 on the season and travels to RIT on Saturday.
