Senior Janine Montera tossed a two-hit shutout, while senior Megan Pogemiller and sophomore Lexi Williams each blasted a two-run homer as the visiting Geneseo women's softball team defeated Nazareth College in game one of the doubleheader, 9-0 in five innings. Geneseo scored two runs in the first inning and erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning. Pogemiller went 2-3 with an RBI double and a two-run shot in the fourth inning, while Williams doubled in the third inning and hit her two-run homer in the fourth. First year Sam Trapasso was 2-2 with a run and an RBI, first year Patty Callahan went 1-3 with a double and two RBI and Rebecca Fitzgerald was 1-3 with a run and an RBI. Montera walked one and struck out five in the circle. In game two, Geneseo completed the sweep with a 6-3 win as the Blue Knights scored three times in the fourth inning to snap a 2-2 tie. First year Elise Porreca went 3-4 with a double and a two-out solo homer in the second inning to pace Geneseo. Fitzgerald was 2-3 with two RBI, while Janeanne LePage and Williams were 2-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Katie Gallagher started in the circle and allowed three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings and Callahan picked up the win in relief by allowing just three hits with five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Geneseo is 10-10 overall and hosts Cortland on Friday at 3 p.m.
