The Geneseo women's lacrosse team raced to an 8-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 17-10 victory over host Oneonta as first year Caroline Buonocore scored six goals with six groundballs and two draw controls to pace the attack. Senior Anna Hutchings scored two goals, collected nine draw controls and scooped eight groundballs in the contest, sophomore Lea Paris added three goals and sophomore Rachel Petrone had a goal and two assists. Senior Lauren Burgoon scored twice and senior Annie Smith made three saves to post the win in nets as the Blue Knights advance to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC. Geneseo hosts conference rival Buffalo State on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Potsdam men's lacrosse team scored with 44 seconds remaining to defeat the visiting Geneseo Blue Knights this afternoon by a score of 9-8. The teams were tied at four at the intermission and Potsdam controlled the third period to take a 7-5 lead. After Potsdam netted the first goal of the fourth quarter, Geneseo mounted a comeback that started with junior Brendan Kurpis scoring his fifth goal of the game on an assist from Craig Lange, the 100th of his career, with 7:15 remaining on the man-up. Junior Jeff Watson scored unassisted at 6:07 and first year John Wettack converted with 5:17 to play to tie the score at eight. First year Ryan Zaremba made eight saves in taking the loss for Geneseo. The Blue Knights fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC play and travel to Plattsburgh on Saturday.
